Advocacy and Compliance Skills: Tools for Equitable Workplaces in the Arts

Join the Arts Administrators of Color Network for a workshop designed to empower BIPOC arts leaders and individual artists in creating healthy work environments and addressing workplace discrimination. Preventing discrimination is not only a legal requirement but also crucial for the well-being of your team and the success of your organization. This training will equip you with the tools to educate employees, establish clear policies, and create a transparent process for reporting discrimination.

Individual and teaching artists will gain resources to advocate for themselves when working with organizations and learn how to respond if they experience discrimination. As BIPOC artists and administrators, it’s vital that we support each other in building a healthier sector.

As part of our Skills for Arts Management track, this session will explore the current landscape of EEOA compliance for organizations and nonprofit artists. You’ll receive practical advice and legal resources to help you maintain respectful, compliant workplaces. Understanding the laws and resources available to create and sustain healthy workplaces—and address non-compliance—is essential for artists and arts leaders alike.

Key topics include contract negotiation strategies, preventing discrimination, and fostering an inclusive work environment. Whether you’re an artist or a leader, this session will provide you with the tools to create equitable policies and effectively address discrimination.
